Her: are you okay?
Me: I’m fine
What I mean: Skip beat! Is one of my first shoujo manga love, portrayed a young girl getting her heart broken to some jerkface but instead of makeing the plot a central love triangle were the girl defeats the boy who wrong her by getting together with another guy instead makes her in charge of her own destiny literally using her spite to prove others wrong. The main focus is the plot is not centered around romance but around her rebuilding, regaining her sense of self and her ability to not only love herself but others around her. Instead of putting her against other female characters in petty fights or senseless comparisons they instead use each female character as a complex building block not only for herself but also to develop those female characters. A beautifully shows the complex feelings that one has to trust another person not only to just be vulnerable near them but also romantic. Just girls supporting girls! (Its been reference that the main lead isn’t your typical ‘straight’ girl) It’s story demonstrates that love comes in many different shapes and forms and we should never grow to become so harsh or cynical with a romanticized idea of innocent love. Though with all her hardships, the main character still believes in fairy tales and still retains her child like fantasy, validating young girls who still believe in those tales. The male lead is the first one to admit his feelings (I mean to the audience but still in many shoujo mangas it’s usually the main female character expressing it abundantly clear that she has feelings for the male lead but this time the audience is completely aware that the male lead is the one who fell for her first) which is like! Whoah! The in story plot has literally only taken two years! and throughout her time in the story our female lead has always been growing for herself rather than someone else. It has literally been an ongoing manga for over 16 yrs now 16 YEARS!
